3 Tips to Hire a Great Team, Not Just an Agent

You can and should have a fantastic experience when buying a home. There should be celebrations and possibly champagne involved, but it’s rarely (if ever) due to the work of a single individual. These results are produced by teams that work together in a defined system to produce better synergy, service, and speed. Here are 3 tips to help you find the right team.

#1 – When interviewing a real estate agent or loan officer, ask them who they work best with. Synergy is important when speaking with a real estate agent or loan officer. These 2 offices have to work together in order for a smooth transaction to happen. Synergy happens when two offices combine and produce an outcome greater than each could have produced on their own. Asking for referrals will lead to a smoother process.

#2 – Ask to be contacted a specific way at a specific time. What most people think of as good service is really just proactive communication. If calls are returned on time or better yet there is proactive communication, then we think of that as good service. When searching for a house and trying to finalize finances then it’s important that you be able to communicate efficiently. If there is a time-sensitive matter, do you want a voicemail, email, or text? What will you see and be able to reply fastest to? You determine the best way to communicate, drop anyone that won’t communicate in your most preferred method.

#3Speed to close is vital. Look for referrals and online reviews that specifically say that they closed on time and ask how long everyone has worked together. Typically, a group that has worked together for a period of time will know when to communicate and work cohesively to accomplish on-time closings. Referral partners are much more likely to go the extra mile for each other in order to keep the relationship strong.

The real estate industry has been glamorized over the last 20+ years with the advent of HGTV plus copycat shows appearing on Discovery, TLC, A&E, Netflix, and more. These shows tend to isolate a superstar and we lose sight of the amazing teams that surround and elevate that star. Because of this portrayal, it’s easy to assume that an assertive agent is a solo act that will lead you to success. In reality, it’s an entire team that works behind the scenes on every transaction and everyone from the Loan Officer Assistant to the Funder is vital to the process.
